The renovation of the popular tourist area Khaosan road has been in progress for a while and is now almost done and expected to be finished within days with a big cleaning which is scheduled on May 20th.
BMA has said that the project was done to promote tourism as Khaosan is one of the most popular areas for younger tourists with thousands visiting per day and many staying in hotels and hostels in the area.
The roads and footpaths have been relaid so it should make them more durable and easier to clean and in addition to that, the area will be divided into sales zones by product types making it easier for tourists to navigate. Only listed merchants will be allowed to sell their goods.
Traders will be allowed to open their shops immediately after the big cleaning scheduled on May 20th and once the pandemic situation is contained it is expected the full reopening will happen on July 1st or August 1st depending on the advice given by the Public Health Ministry.
Also, they are considering splitting current noon to midnight tradings hours to two periods from 9 am to 5 pm and from 6 pm to midnight to support more traders both old and new.
