Just last week five teachers in Mukdahan close to the Laos border have been accused of gang-raping a 14-year-old student. All of the suspects denied it and have been released on bail but then another 16-year-old student came forward and also claimed that she has been sexually assaulted and had evidence that would ID the suspects.
It has been suggested by some experts that Thailand should have a sex offender registry and an employment ban for convicted sex offenders.
But some Thai officials think that this and prison time is not enough and propose that convicted sex offenders be chemically castrated. Justice minister Somsak Thepustin said he supports the proposition.
